The Best $250 Bucks We Ever Spent!
Bee-Eater and Bug Bombs
I think I have mentioned I am not a real "bug" person. My mom tried to coax me into taking an entomology class my Senior year of college but I was WAY too skeeved out by the idea of collecting bugs all quarter to entertain the option (she was just looking for an outlet for her freezer collection of dead bugs). In fact, this winter when we had a spider move into our dining room. I decided it was much better to co-habitate then to risk feeling that little body crunch if I killed it. That is how we got our first ever pet. He was a little friend the kids and I would hang out with and chat about. Superkid even drew him a picture of a web to hang next to his web. It even got to the point that when Superkid and Abizella's friends came over for pre-school they would run into the house to check in with "Webby". Well, one day I asked a friend to come over with her kids and watch my kids while I went for a long run. I was in the bedroom going through the ritual of putting Tadpole down for a nap when I heard Superkid's friend scream and start to cry that there was a spider in the dining room. His mom (a much braver woman than myself) quickly extinguished our little friend, which of course made my kids cry. I could see the whole event playing out before it even happened tucked away in my room but felt the spider was a good sacrifice for a Tadpole nap, for my friend's sake. In retrospect, two happy spider owning kids and a cranky baby was the better option.
We recently have had a new "pet" join the family. The kids named him "Bee-Eater" after his impressive display of catching and eating a bumble bee LIVE right before our eyes! I discovered our little friend Saturday afternoon. I felt like someone was staring me down when BAM! I made eye contact with our little friend. He has made our window sill (outside!) his little home. We have now witnessed him hunting and eating 2 bumble bees! Before he caught his first bumble bee lunch, I didn't think it could possibly be true. Don't preying mantis only eat "bad" bugs? Well a little internet research proved that theory wrong!
Bee-eater may actually become the newest resident of our basement. We have talked SERIOUSLY of setting off a bug bomb in our basement when we leave town (especially since Pops noticed our super-sized Daddy Long Leg that guards our washing machine was missing its body. We are just a little nervous to think WHAT would be brave enough to leave just the gigantic spider's long legs dangling from its web). But if we relocate Bee-eater our bug problems (not to mention mouse, small hummingbird...but not tarantula...you'll see what I mean if you click the You Tube link above) will be solved!
Frogging Around
You got to click on this pic and take a good look. Frog Pond was MADE for the Tidepool Toads!
...but I was FRANTIC at times trying to keep track of my little toads all by myself!
Mr. Tadpole was a Maniac! He was everywhere! I guess I forgot to tell him he was a baby, not a big boy.
Luckily I bumped into a friend who had older kids who helped me lasso my kids.
Because if you can't tell, these kids were FIESTY!
Sassy!
And VERY SPLASHY!
We NEED More Visitors!
Maybe if we got a few more visitors out here then my readership wouldn't have to endure 3 postings of my brother and his wife's visit out here last week. But the truth is, we had such a great time with them here that we really haven't stopped talking about it (and I still have some fabulous pics to post). It is a good thing that these kids will be seeing Crazy Uncle Steve and Pretty Aunt Missy in a couple of days, they really need a fix!
We, of course, had to take them on the Missletoe's Patented (and plagiarized from Pres. E.) Lighthouse Tour of the South Shore.

Here is Abizella's ever faithful friend again. This is where Aunt Missy REALLY proved her loyalty. Abizella of course has to do EVERYTHING "MYSELF!" ...unless of course she couldn't and then she allowed *insisted* that Aunt Missy help.
Here is another one who was big into doing things "MYSELF!" The best part about doing things your self when you are Tadpole is that you really get to enjoy the INSIDE portion of the cracks that others miss out on.

We ended our tour with a little Cape beach time. Tadpole was big into the water.
Abizella liked being buried alive...
Superkid was ready to oblige anyone who wanted to be buried alive.
The good news to all of you "would-be" visitors is that we have a new 5 STAR air mattress. The old air mattress got dinged down to a 4.5 STAR air mattress when it sprung a slow leak. And of course the 6:00 a.m. wake up call comes complimentary!

More Steve and Missy...
We didn't waste any time after picking up Crazy Uncle Steve and Pretty Aunt Missy at the train station. We put them straight to work doing some of our favorite things. Including dramatic readings of some of our favorite books.... Green Eggs and Ham....

Crazy Uncle Steve and Pretty Aunt Missy Come To Visit
Steve is the brother who is just younger than me. During our college years we spent some quality time together working at the pool near campus and commuting to and from the pool and school together in the beloved family "Bruiser". Steve has a magnetic personality. Even though he was one of the younger lifeguards (thus technically a tool), he is such a funny guy EVERYBODY LOVED Steve, and I was guild by association. Even the super cool sorority girls who worked at the reception desk loved Steve. On Friday nights at the pool you could find Steve, Reagan, and I at the front desk feverishly pouring over the Privet Eye "Men Seeking Men" and "Women Seeking Women" section of the paper to see which of our desperate patrons had put them selves out there that week.
While Steve was here he reminded me of one of my all time embarrassing moments. One of the joys of working at the pool was its proximity to the campus. On football nights the management would rope off sections of the parking lot to gouge football enthusiasts pocket books. I have never been a football fan so being the looser I was I would sit in the parking lot and collect money to park cars. One night Steve's best friend and his brother parked in the lot before the game. They came over to chat with us for a bit before heading to the game. Mark (the older brother) has eyes so obviously thought I was cute and later asked me out on a date. We went out on one date, and obviously I wasn't that unforgettable because when he came to pick me up my friend opened the door and he thought she was me. Anyway, shortly thereafter I went to Russia for 6 months. While I was there Mark and I e-mailed (yes e-mail existed *barely* then) a few times. About a month after I got home from Russia I got a phone call from Mark one Sunday night. My family was just sitting down to dinner so I was a little rushed. The conversation went something like this, "Hi, so you are home from Russia... That's great... Did you have a good time?...) I had to cut to the chase to make it down to dinner (I don't miss meals). So he cut to the chase and asked me if I wanted to go out sometime. I said sure and that I would call him after dinner. After dinner I called him back and our conversation went something like this, "Hi, so you are home from Russia... That's great... Did you have a good time?...) I am thinking, "Man, this guy is either a huge dweeb or extremely nervous" . I decided to help him out so I decided to remind him why he called, "So, did you want to go out sometime?" The jerk stammered for a minute and finally said, "Well, I would really like to, but I am kind of seeing someone really seriously right now." I was furious. I couldn't figure out what kind of jerk would set me up like that to tell me he was dating someone else. I went down stairs after the conversation and told Steve what a looser friend's older brother he had. Well being the killer little brother he was, Steve marched himself over to Mark's house and chewed him out. Mark had some sad story about how he never asked me out and it was me who asked him out. Whatever! I was outraged. Steve was outraged for me. What a brother. Well, a couple of weeks later I got a phone call from my friend Jupawsly's older brother Mike. Jupawsly was in France for the summer so she was out of the picture for the moment. Mike chit chatted for a minute and finally said, "So, you never called me back. Did you want to go out sometime?" I fell over. It was MIKE not MARK who called me. Doh! I felt so stupid. I am not the kind of gal who calls up guys (I hardly know!) and ask them out. I wasn't cool enough to laugh it off either. Instead, to this day, I avoid Mark at ALL costs. Which was kinda a full time job at Steve's mission farewell and homecoming and wedding.
Say what you will about Steve, he may be a huge coward when it comes to monster spiders scratching paper under his bed, he may be a huge pest when it comes to demanding you to pluck hair from unmentionable parts of his body, he may be the bossiest back seat diver in the universe, but he is loyal through and through. Thanks for going and chewing out Mark for me all those years ago Steve! You're the best!

Tadpole is all Toad
My little Tadpole has grown up and changed so much over the last year. He is looking more and more like a big boy every day. Superkid, Abizella and I made a poster for Tadpole's birthday and Superkid added this little picture up in the corner. Maybe I am just describing the obvious here (wink), but it is a frog with an egg in its belly with a little tadpole inside. Symbolizing that no matter how big this toad gets, he'll always be our little tadpole.
Here is our little toad thoroughly enjoying his spaghetti dinner, a Phrogbottom 1st birthday family tradition.
The aftermath...
Calling all frogs for birthday cake...
It is safe to assume that there was a bath after every course.
And then there were presents!
And lots of help opening them too!

Punk Rock Girl Revival
Exciting news for those "Punk Rock Girl" fans out there, she has come out of retirement. Superkid found the first signs of her return.

Big 3!
Abizella woke up in a dead sprint on her birthday! She was super pumped about all of the decorations, even more so than her new purple scooter.
We opened a few presents before church because we had a sneaky suspicion that Grandma sent something cute for a birthday girl to wear to church.
We were right! ...and relieved that there was a cute hat to replace the underwear Abizella had chosen as her birthday hat.
Somebody knew this day was all about her!
And thanks to A.K. and S.K. who know what kind of hat is befitting of a 3 year old!
And here she is, Miss Strawberry Shortcake, or as Abizella says, "Twabewy Shortcake". Of course she was a "Twacolate cake with Twacolate ice cream".
We rounded out the night with a dramatic reading from our friend Joe...
And practiced some arabesques.
