Cupcake Boss

The kids and I attended a cupcake class.
Turns out it was for adults- but these kids did great.
They have been training for it their whole lives-
they watch DIY You Tube any chance they get.
They were SPELLBOUND for their live session!
It was a 45 minute lecture on cupcakes
followed by a hands-on piping session!

After all of that we were disappointed to learn that we didn't even get to eat a cupcake! No worries- We'll continue this workshop at home!

All Town Orchestra

Abizella's big night- the all town orchestra concert!
The 5th graders played, "Bleak Mid-Winter" then they were joined by the high school kids to play, "Theme from Minuet in G".
They sounded incredible.
Abizella said that the music brought tears to her eyes.
She was very pleased to be part of this awesome performance.

Superkid came to support his sister.
We celebrated with a little treat from Abizella's favorite Fro-yo place- Menchies!
Good times!

Killing Kindergarten

This kid is rocking kindergarten.
Sight words-check.
Counting-check.
Reading-check.
Math games-check.
Friends-check.
I'm getting rave reviews from this kid's teacher.
And he is loving it!

Just the Right Amount

There is such a thing as just the right amount of snow.
After last year I have been guessing the right amount was zero.
But after we got a few inches and the kiddos suited up to do a little sledding, I was convinced.
A few inches is just about right.
Especially when it doesn't stick around.

Jaws wasn't a snow fan last year, but he is loving it this year!

We had a few tense moments when Superkid suited up. His snow pants were 6 inches too short and even if he folded his foot in half he wouldn't fit into last year's boots. I found my old ski pants from 1995 and they fit the bill- and he went out in his sneakers. You can do that if there is only a few inches of snow and you want to get in a little speed.

Nobody loves it like Abizella. She was made for winter.
Long after everyone else calls it, she is still out there.
This time just lounging in the snow gazing at the clouds.

 I'm not going to lie.
Suiting up is no small affair.
Neither is the un-suiting.
But these guys are worth it.

The Best Time of the Week

Little Chief is up for FHE treat.
We all lobbied hard for our favorite treat.
He chose mine- peanut butter cookies!
These two are the best cooks.
Usually Pops is on cookie duty, he was freed up to sink Tadpole's Battleship.
Nothing beats cookies and fire on a cold winter night!
Except for maybe a snuggle and two fingers to suck.
I love home.

Do The Mummy Rap

This year's State of the Union viewing party also had an emergency mummy wrapping element to it. Superkid's social studies project got crushed in transit to school. Pops is a good guy to sacrifice his President Obama heckling time to help Superkid bang out a second mummy!

The mummy diversion was probably a good thing. The boys wanted to watch the State of the Union with their Nerf guns. We all agree on one thing, the most American way to watch the State of the Union is with a piece of pie, this year the peanut butter chocolate pie from Cold Stone! Mmmmmm.... State of the Union!

And the good news is Superkid rocked his Egypt presentation on Mummies, "Do the Mummy Rap". Parents were invited. He even cracked a few appropriate mummy jokes. Way to go Superkid!

He's Back...

I was tucking into bed last night when she nodded toward the doll bunk bed and said mischievously, "Mom- guess who's back.."
I glanced over through the dark and my stomach dropped through the floor!
Superkid and Tadpole have it out for Gerry so his presence in our home is top-secret. Gerry has entered the Bridget protection program. He made a stealth weekend trip home to be fitted for his new boots Abizella made for him.

Perfect fit!
Pretty amazing considering Abz made the boots while he was at Bridget's.
He also got some other winter gear- a hat, scarf and mittens.
Abizella is happy to have her old friend back. The rest of us are a little creeped out. I couldn't resist. I called Pops in, nodded to the bunk bed and mischievously said, "He's back..." and then Abz and I laughed our guts out when we saw his heart jump out of his chest.

Monopoly

I don't know why we bother, Pops always wins.
He knows how to sweeten any deal to gain a Monopoly...
Little Chief is thinking it over...
Looks like Pops is going to seal the deal...
Until Abz offers some sisterly advice.
She knows. She's been squashed by Pops in the past.
Superkid is confident in his playing skills and luck.
Tadpole is always quick to let you know how bad you hurt...

That crowd is brutal. First chance I get I cut out for a round of puzzles.

Always good times with the Toads, win or loose.

New Year's Day

You will find us one place on New Year's Day-
The Curhan's New Year's party.
We look forward to seeing our friends and eating good food.
We are never disappointed by the thrills of the basement.
This year Ben's guinea pig was there to entertain us!
 Fooz ball!
And Dana's new toy- the race car set!

Benny took his guinea pig out to play
2016 is off to a good start!
