Tidepool Toads Put Their Science On

The week between Christmas and New Years is my favorite. The last few years I've had the good fortune of working somewhere that shuts down between Christmas and New Years. It is so relaxing. We usually do nothing. And it means everything to me to just be together.
This year I've been working on a big project at work to install a new automated system. The company that built the robot has been onsite installing the robot and will be working on it for the next few months. It turns out they do not shut down during Christmas break. They were planning on working during the week. We looked at the schedule and with the biggest automation conference happening at the beginning of February, there was no wiggle room. They had to work over Christmas. My boss had plans to visit his family in New York. I volunteered to come in to work to let the engineers in to do their work. My boss said I could have the time off during February vacation week.
He also said I should bring the kids into work with me. Done!

The first day I brought Superkid and Abizella in with me.
Abizella was a regular working girl!
I brought the kids straight into the lab to get to work.
It's called pipetting. They are naturals!
We started with the manual single channels...
and moved quickly up to the electronic multi-channels!
It's harder than it looks. They made serial dilutions in 384 well plates.
Half of the scientist in our lab shrink at the thought.
Those wusses will only work in 96 wells.
But not my kids! They are sharp shooters!
After a morning of hard work, I treated them to an authentic bowl of Ramen. They were good sports- but remain loyal to the twenty-five cent/bag version.
They then took a break to get a little 3-Doodler art work done.
Then back to the grind!
Th next day, we brought the little bros. back for some fun.
Abizella packed a breakfast picnic and prepared us a meal that couldn't be beat!
The younger Toads are too little to go into the lab, but not too little to draw on the lab!

Great fun! The kids came every day all week long!
We went out for pizza...
We made movies...
We brunched...

We lunched...
We played games-
lots of them!

We played until we collapsed!

And the kids collapsed everyday on the long drive home every afternoon.
This is the good life. I love take-your-kids-to-work-week!

A Day of Play

The best part of Christmas is just having a day to play together.
After a giant brunch of scones, bacon, egg nog and oranges we got busy.

Christmas Morning!

Santa left us oranges.
Little Chief said that it was just what he wanted!
I guess the rest was overkill!

Christmas was on Sunday this year.
This happy crew swapped out their Christmas jammies for church clothes and Star Wars snow hats.

We decided to fill our bellies with Christmas candy and save our breakfast for after church. Best move ever. I love Christmas on Sunday.
