Why Not Go Cruise Some Elevators?

Today was Tadpole's 6 month check up so we got to visit our most favorite doctor in the whole world! This little chunky monkey tipped the scales at 20 lbs 1.5 oz.! And he is 28 inches long. That keeps him in the 80 percentile. Just look at this gorgeous physique!

We had a such a great time riding the 4 elevators to get to and from the doctor's office, we had a pow-wow and decided why should the fun end? Why not go to the "land of elevators" so my posse...

and I hit the rails to meet Pops for lunch. Why not? We all thought it sounded like more fun than Costco, which was the original plan.The children handled themselves nicely and I think EVERYONE got their fill of pushing buttons after riding the 14 elevators required for the journey. But Abizella has one request, she wants these shiny gold mirror elevators placed at all elevator locations. Why-not? If you looked that cute you would too!

The Man of the House

At some point Pops told Superkid that when he wasn't at home then Superkid was, "The Man of the House". He probably listed a detail of duties along with the title such as: take care of your brother, sister and Mom, help Mom out etc. Superkid takes this responsibility seriously and always let's me know when he is "The Man of the House". Sometimes he even dresses the part.

Two days ago he noticed a spider in the house and was very concerned about its presence in our home. He was trying to decide if this was a good thing or not and what we should do about it when he said, "Mama, The Man of the House doesn't kill spiders. Spiders are his pets." He looked thoughtful as to the best way to care for a spider. He said, "Do you think the spider looks hungry Mama? Maybe you should open a window and let a fly in." To truly make the little pet spider feel at home, Superkid even gave the spider a name, his name. The spider eventually found a place to hide. Ever since then The Man of the House has been trying to lure him out with new "homes" for him (which is really funny if you know Superkid and his reserved approach to bugs). This is one he made out of a tape that he unraveled.

The spider later re-appeared to get in on the fun. Superkid asked if I would grab the spider and put it in his hand so he could take care of it. We just stared at each other for a long time trying to decide who would call who's bluff. Superkid won (he comes by his distaste of bugs honestly).

Today Pops actually found the spider's real web (which I am not sure how we didn't notice up to this point, as it is the size of our dining room). Superkid was really excited that our pet had such a lovely home. The only thing that could make it better would be this beautiful portrait of the spider and and his new home that Superkid insisted should be "nailed up" next to the web.


We're just glad that "The Man of the House" takes such good care of us, even our newest 8 legged member!

At least she cleans up nicely!

And she sometimes chooses interesting places to relieve herself...


But you gotta love a girl who appreciates chocolate!


Not everyone can pull off being a princess...

and a trucker all at the same time!


And sometimes we only have ourselves to blame (will we EVER learn??!!)!



I realize that taking pictures of her misdeeds does not go a long way to discouraging her antics, but it goes a long way to helping keep my sense of humor (and not blowing a gasket!)

Why Not Whip Up A Batch Of Non-Newtonian Fluid?

I have to admit this is actually Pop's brain child. He wa all a flutter after viewing this on the internet, so we dove into some family fun (well at least our hands did!).

This stuff is amazing (and may be coming to a pre-school near you soon, if your pre-school is at my house, that is). When you apply pressure it is hard as a rock but when you remove the pressure it flows like a river. All this fun can be yours too if you have a box of corn starch (thanks S.K. for your moving cast offs) and some water.

Get your boxes of corn starch ready because Pops is already planning our Non-Newtonian Fluid (kiddie) Pool Party.

Now back to the laboratory for us... so far we have discovered that:
Food coloring stains


Non-Newtonian fluid tastes bad


While Non-Newtonian fluid makes an ideal teething substance, Ziploc bags are not impenetrable. Don't call DSS yet, the bag broke in Pop's hands (not Tad's mouth!). It actually sent him screaming to the kitchen with oozing limp hands (all the time with me yelling, "Squeeze your hands!").

Big News!

Since I have been out of the blogging groove, my little nephew popped into the world. Cincha called me the Friday before he came and said she was having some "cramps". I said sympathetically, "Ya." Then I thought about it.... "Wait, is this the FIRST time in your pregnancy that you feel cramps?" SO unfair. I smugly told her she could expect to feel that way for the next few weeks. Boy was I wrong! Here is the sweet stuff Davis James born 3 weeks early! Congratulations!!!

In other news, we have had 2 additions to our family as well.. Superkid and Abizella made these little friends last week and they have finally sprouted hair! Abizella's grasshead has taken a few knocks and is currently without eyes.


And speaking of sprouting... Tadpole has sprouted 2 more teeth!


And speaking of hair, Abizella's hair is now complying with the laws of gravity (at least most of the time).


And what about Superkid? He is now literate!!!! That's right, he has officially read his first book!!! Pops and I are busting with pride! These "Bob" books are amazing! They are fun and perfect for new readers!


And for those of you who are keeping track, I actually did not skip a "Why-Not-Wednesday" activity, I am just getting around to posting it now. Last week I cleaned out the medicine closet (ya, I know...not that exciting, that is why I haven't posted it before). It really was time. The last time Pops got sick I told him to go medicate himself. He pulled out 2 handfuls of expired medicine, which he tossed. The good news is that at least all of the medicine was from THIS century. The bad news is we're out of medicine.
