Jaws' Crusty Eye

I think there is something wrong with our 2year old- and I'm not talking about the bacterial infection in his eye. He came to me this morning and said. "It's time for my medicine- I'll go lay in the bed".
I didn't know what he was talking about so I continued to do the dishes until Tadpole said, "Mom, he needs his eye medicine!" Oh ya! I snagged it and scurried to the bedroom before I missed my opportunity. Jaws was waiting for me there. He compliantly laid back and said, "Do you want to see me cry?" I dropped the medicine in the corners of his eyes and asked him to blink. He got up and cheerfully said, "Thank you for my medicine Mommy."

Sunday Line Up

We clean up pretty good for church.

A Walk In The Woods

Saturday we took a walk in the woods.

Our good friends Zach and Morgan came along for the adventure.
This may be Jaws' last free ride...

Tad and his buddy took the opportunity to work on their Wolf hiking merit badge. They had to look for 2 things they had never seen before. They found two types of mushrooms. They collected specimens to examine when we got home.
 The scenery was spectacular!

 The company was excellent!

Superkid brought his bow and arrow along to get a little target practice.
The girls made little mini-movies along the way.
Superkid wanted to visit his little troll that guards this little island.

The troll does good work scaring away any intruders.

On the way back, we found a good rolling hill...

With a spectacular angle and a breeze to our backs for optimal arrow shooting practice...

Man Tooth

Little Chief lost his first tooth yesterday!
He was a little concerned when he found a wiggly tooth in his mouth until Pops told him he was about to loose his first tooth which includes a visit from the tooth fairy! He had one more little concern over the amount of blood that would be involved. Pops assured him it was barely a drop. LC must have gotten right to work, because about 2 minutes later he was holding his prize! He was pretty pleased with the whole event, as there was hardly any blood involved and it didn't hurt at all, but he said he didn't want to loose any more teeth because he likes to use his teeth to chew. Pops explained that it wouldn't be long before a big tooth popped in to replace the baby tooth and it probably pushed the baby tooth out.

LC popped out his chest and triumphantly said, "My Man tooth!" and that is how he has affectionately referred to his new tooth ever since.

20 Year Reunion

20 years ago I went on the adventure of a lifetime. I taught English in Russia to children. I was 19 years old! I thought I was all grown up- until I landed and learned how helpless I was. Luckily for me my good friend Wendy came along too. Her birthday is two days after mine, June 28th.
And THIS is the missing link-
Amy! We met her in Russia. Her birthday is June 27th. We all did a lot of growing up in the 6 months we lived in Moscow. The time I spent there has forever shaped my life for the better. Everything was an adventure because I knew I had a plane ticket home in 6 months. I'm glad that I shared the time there with Amy! She now lives in the DC area with her husband, who was our director in Moscow (and another of my favs), and their 5 children. She called me up and asked if she and her daughter could spend the weekend with us while they looked at local colleges. I was thrilled to see my buddy again!!!
Here is Amy and her daughter at Adam's National Park. I think it is awesome that Amy still has a red coat. Just like the good old days!
They brought us a little treat from the Cheese Cake Factory!

It was so decadent that it actually took Superkid down!
He was a pretty good sport for losing the battle...
Considering the confidence that he entered the fight!
Mmmmm!
We loved D! It was fun to get to know her and wish her well as she sets out on her great adventure!

Super Saturday

I keep saying, "This has got to be the last warm day before the deep freeze hits!" and then we get another beautiful day!
We seized this beautiful day!

Superkid got right on the lawn
Abz, Tadpole and I tackled the cars (Why is our family so gross!)
 The lawn is pretty big...
Pops and Superkid worked on sheet-rocking the basement.

Little Chief was the official photographer of the basement, and himself.

Abizella, Little Chief and I planted 150 bulbs.

Everyone else was busy so Jaws had to fend for himself.

Turns out he has pretty good survival skills.
Abizella and LC also brought in the pear harvest.
The crazy lady that sold us the house recommended wrapping the trunk of the pear tree in foil and rubbing it down with Vaseline to keep the animals from eating the fruit (crazy right?). The first summer we lived here I didn't mind sharing with the animals so I didn't bother. The squirrels didn't leave us a single pear. This year I did what the crazy lady suggested and we had HUNDREDS of pears! We need to find some middle ground!

Like I said- there were 150 bulbs to plant!

What a glorious day!
