Mylie is in the House

The best part of living in a cool town is the cool people it attracts. Cousin Mylie came to check out Bean Town. She's been here before- but not for 7 years when she came with her mom (my cousin Julie) after Mylie's high school graduation. We tried to convince her to stay forever. We hope she comes again soon!

Dangers in Crafting

Abizella wants a hot glue gun- and she wants it badly. I told her that if Glama gives her the green light she could have one. So Abz called her up. Glama was clueless - and completely useless to me. Apparently Glama's experience was so horrible that she had completely blacked out the entire hot glue gun affair.

It all happened about 30 years ago. Glama was building the annual family 4th of July float. She constructed one nearly every year of my childhood- usually built on the back of Dad's motorcycle trailer, sometimes on the back of his pick-up truck. The whole garage was her float studio. This particular afternoon, I was bouncing on the trampoline, so I had front row seats to the ensuing catastrophe. Glama was armed with her trusty hot glue gun. She pushed a piece of fringe into place after laying a fresh strip of hot glue. She accidentally stuck her finger into the molten glue. Naturally the best place for a scalded finger is in one's mouth. As Glama jammed her blistering hot finger in her mouth, she burnt her lip. She made a run for the house. Unfortunately, in her haste up the back porch stairs, she twisted her ankle and fell. I'm sure the float was completed that year- but my mom had a blistered lip and finger and a sprained ankle to show for it!

After I refreshed Glama's memory- we all agreed. A hot glue gun is a dangerous thing. ...But Abz still wants one.

Cello Fun

Abizella chose the cello. She could have picked any instrument under the sun, but she picked cello.
We tried to warn her that it would be a major pain to haul back and forth from school, but she said she could do it. She said it was worth it because it made the most beautiful sounds of all the instruments.

I was there to pick up the kids from school the day that she got the cello.
She was excited!

She said it was heavy and asked me to carry it.
I told her what didn't kill her would make her stronger and grabbed her backpack.
She did it! She hauled that huge honking big cello all the way home.
And then she took it out to play...
And you know what? She is not the only celloist in the family. Grandma Sherrie used to play too!

None of us knew this, but Grandma played cello all the way through college.
Which makes it totally worth it to haul this big cello all over town!

Editor's Note

Sorry fans- I am drastically behind. I've decided to pick up here and move on and also back fill the missing stuff from the summer. So if you are a die hard Tidepool Toads fan, be sure to scroll down to see the summer fun fill in over the next few weeks.

"Jennifer Conference"

We love General Conference weekend.
It is filled with projects, family, and food. It really should be a 3-day weekend event.

This was Superkid's first year to go to Priesthood session. Pops has been counting down to this date for years. In fact, Superkid was not technically legit, as he doesn't turn 12 for another week. But Pops has been looking forward to having a Priesthood session buddy since his best buds moved away, leaving Pops to go to Tenessees BBQ before and Cold Stone after all by himself.

Pops and Superkid wore matching pin-stripe suits. Superkid got to choose the dinner venue. I giggled to myself as I imagined two dapper pin-stripped clad gents strolling into Wendy's on a Saturday night.
Tadpole and Little Chief were total wanna-be-s.
They're going to have to wait their turn.
Pops is thrilled that he has 18 years for buddies lined up for the big night.
We pulled out some trains and tried to have a little fun too.

Abizella took over the cinnamon roll detail this year.
She's a pro!

The kids anxiously lined up to start the gorging.
When the adults were not looking, she and Little Chief slid in some blue food coloring.

Then it was time to settle down and enjoy what Little Chief calls,
"Jennifer Conference".
We didn't bother to correct him.

Jennifer Conference is definitely the best Sunday of the year!
