Jail Break- Science Museum

I had so much fun at the zoo, I decided to take another day off to take the whole gang to the Science Museum. This place normally is a zoo on Saturdays so I can't hack it with this crew, but on a weekday the science museum is a ghost town. I busted the kids out of school and we got some real learning done. 

We started with some giant bull moose.

Our next stop was the Human Body Exhibit. I was here a couple of weeks before for a seminar and I couldn't wait to get the kids back. I was doubly happy to see that my old friend and colleague Rhada was volunteering here!

She helped the kiddos assemble a chimpanzee skeleton.

Tadpole really got "in" to this.

It was really great to see Rhada again, she gave us a guided tour of the exhibit.

Jaws thought the 1 day old chicks were fantastic!

Pops got out of court early so he joined us for some museum fun.

Here's Abz trying to sneak through the woods without alerting the birds.

This isn't Utah, we don't have a real T-Rex, but this model was impressive.

The kids did a little carbon modeling.

And blasted off to space in this little capsule...

Next we became trampoline engineers.

Everyone got to play!

What fun!

It was actually a contest. This kid got first prize for the highest bounce.

Here is the moment of truth. Time to load the entry. She scored a 71! 

That was double anyone else that day.

All this activity, we needed a rest! 

How about on a bed of nails!!!?

Good times. We did the ENTIRE museum.

We decided we earned a night out on the town. Pizza for everyone!

And the home renovations continue. Pops discovered that the bathroom vents were venting into the attic. He took the weekend to remedy the problem. Now our steam is blown off to the great world beyond! Way to go Pops!

There is a certain leak in the kitchen sky light that keeps sending Pops up on the roof. He won't be bested this time! He and Superkid are on the job.

And we decided it was time to upgrade our kitchen from 1990 to at least the new millennium.

I ripped off the first piece of wallpaper to discover a little more of project than I bargained for.

But I enlisted the dream team. 

Pops mended the walls and Superkid swapped out the handles on the kitchen.

What do you think? Forest green country or space age silver?

No contest.

Its good to have the kitchen back to business.

We're Going to the Zoo Zoo Zoo

Little Chief and Jaws are animal lovers at heart. After the fun we had with the barn animals at the apple farm it was decided. Next time Pops has a court appearance, I'm taking the day off work and the little guys and I are going to the zoo. We met some friends too!

We thought this elephant skeleton was pretty fascinating!

The tigers put on a really good show for us.

Jaws would not take his eyes off these guys!

We watched them for a long time. It was great to do something the little guys enjoyed. A good amount of the time they spend their time tethered to the stroller. They were both free range today. Whatever they want was exactly what we were going to do.

Little chief loves camels. He was dying to see one of them spit. That stems from a certain Zoo app we have on the iPad. These camels don't spit. Bummer.

These gorillas were amazing. There was something unnerving about staring eye-to-eye with a grandmother gorilla. 

She seemed a little too smart to be behind glass.

We loved her.

We had a great time with our new buddies too!

We had a fabulous day.

APPLES!

APPLES! 

OH I LOVE THEM!

We are all major fans. I was happy to have Abi and her friend Alacia along to help with the littles! We love Tougas farms, they have an excellent variety of apples... but when it comes right down to it there is only one apple, the Honey Crisp.

Apple picking is Superkid's absolute favorite activity of the year. This was a major happy day for him. He even stuffed his pockets with cash to buy a bag of apple cider donuts.

These gems are really the best autumn treat, even if you have to gum them!

They are also more juicy than a juice box, look at Little Chief just sucking down that goodness.

Abi is a pro. She knows the perfect honey crisp.

It was pretty handy to have both big and little people on the trip. 

We make a good team!

This kid happily gobbled the same apple the whole trip.

Then to the farm. This kid has always been devoted to the tractor.

Last stop, the humongous apple cider donut line. 

That was totally worth the wait!
